Cara first was introduced to Wintringham as a University Student during a guest lecture given by Danny in the second year of her Recreation Degree. Danny’s talk on not limiting Recreation based on age and perceived ability really struck a chord (especially the weekly Go-Karting sessions) and she applied and got a two-week placement at Port Melbourne Hostel. From there, Cara continued to volunteer her time until her studies and full-time work took over.
20 years later, in April 2020, just as the pandemic took hold, Cara started working as a casual Community Recreation Officer for Wintringham. After 6 months, Cara took on more of a split role, working with the clients in the field and helping the coordinator to implement Community Recreation services. When the opportunity to work at Port Melbourne as a Recreation Coordinator came up Cara jumped on the chance to go back to where it all began. Cara commenced her new position in May 2021 and in her short time on site has created more opportunities for residents to have access to art programs and supplies, utilising the skills of her team. We are also putting together a colouring book for our residents and have many more ideas to inspire the residents through art and design. Maybe a community art project could be on the horizon???
In her spare time, Cara likes to spend time with her husband and two children, going out to see live music, catch up with friends and planning and booking holidays (in Australia and overseas). She also likes to binge shows on multiple streaming services.
